How to Motor Vibration in Gimbal

Modified on Mon, 15 Jun at 11:28 AM

Overview

In some cases, users may experience motor vibration or shaking on the gimbal, even when the payload is properly balanced. This issue is often caused by mechanical resonance between the gimbal structure, payload, and motor control parameters.

Symptoms

- Visible motor vibration while the gimbal is powered on.

- Oscillation or shaking on one or more axes.

- Increased vibration after mounting a new payload or camera setup.

- The issue becomes more noticeable when the gimbal is stationary.

Possible Causes

- Loose screws or mechanical connections on the gimbal frame.

- Resonance between the payload and the gimbal structure.

- Stiffness parameter set too high for the current payload configuration.

Troubleshooting Steps

- Step 1: Check Mechanical Fasteners

Carefully inspect all screws and mounting points on the gimbal, including:

- Payload mounting plate

- Camera cage connections

- Motor arm screws

- Top bar and frame assembly screws

Ensure all screws are securely tightened. Even slightly loose fasteners can amplify resonance and cause motor vibration.

- Step 2: Reduce Stiffness in gTune

If all mechanical connections are secure and the vibration persists:

- Connect the gimbal to a computer and open gTune.

- SETTINGS >> STIFTNESS

- Reduce the Stiffness value gradually (for example, decrease it by 5–10 points).

- Apply the settings and test the gimbal.

Example

If the current Stiffness value is 70, try reducing it to 60 and observe the result. In many cases, this adjustment significantly reduces or eliminates motor vibration.

Expected Result

After tightening all mechanical fasteners and optimizing the Stiffness setting, the motor vibration should be greatly reduced or completely eliminated.
